Overview of the Long-term RiverWare Planning Model for the Truckee-Carson River Basins

Heather Gacek (presenter), Shane Coors and Tom Scott

Abstract: The Lahontan Basin Area Office (LBAO) of the Bureau of Reclamation in collaboration with a group of key basin stakeholders and Precision Water Resources Engineering has developed a long-term RiverWare model of the Truckee and Carson River Basins. This model, known as the Truckee-Carson Planning model, includes specific operational policy employed by the LBAO and key stakeholders. In many cases these operational policies are modeled in ways which allow for flexibility; this is done with the intent of allowing the LBAO and stakeholders to optimize their operational policies. Additionally the model is intended to be used as part of the Newlands Project Planning Study and the Truckee Basin Study. An overview of select functionality within the model will be discussed, as well as examples of the above uses for the model.
