Abstract: Optimization in RiverWare has been enhanced during the past year and additional enhancements are planned for next year. After a brief conceptual review of the optimization controller in RiverWare we discuss enhancements made for TVA and the Oak Ridge wind integration project on the Mid-Columbia River: enhanced data checking, user-defined variables and batch mode. These enhancements allow users to extend RiverWare optimization to model new functionality such as nonlinear functions for total dissolved gas and forecast error. For next year, CADSWES anticipates adding simulation-based optimization to RiverWare, adding ancillary services for power generation, and enhancing optimization documentation and training materials. We will also discuss the potential to replace CPLEX with a public domain solver.
