Using Batch Mode to Run RiverWare Models for the use of Logic Testing and Model Change Verification |
Anthony Powell, Caleb Erkman, Shane Coors, & Heather Gacek - Precision Water Resources Engineering |
RiverWare’s Batch mode allows for a model to be run in the background of a user’s computer and is run through the use of RiverWare Command Language (rcl) scripts. These rcl scripts can specify RiverWare start and end times, set DMI parameters, invoke DMI’s, and run models. The use of batch mode and the benefit that can be gained in testing model logic with various initialized states, hydrologic conditions, and with different starting times will be presented through examples. The first will show the ability to edit the run time for use of testing new logic with the Colorado River Basin Mid-Term Operations Model (MTOM) with rcl scripts. The second will demonstrate the use of batch mode rcl scripts to test logic changes over different initialization and hydrologic scenarios in the 15-Month Truckee River Operating Agreement (TROA) model. Also with the TROA model, we will demonstrate how an rcl script is used to simulate realistic reservoir operations that differ from the perfect model operations and evaluate how the model and the associated logic perform in backward looking mode. With use of the batch mode and accompanying scripts, operations model logic is tested and verified to work over the dynamic conditions in which a model can be used. |
