ABSTRACT
The Colorado River Basin is currently experiencing the worst drought in over 100 years. With reservoir elevations approaching critical elevations, it is important to understand the chances of reaching these critical elevations. Reclamation uses two probabilistic models, the Mid-Term Operations Model (MTOM) and the Colorado River Simulation System (CRSS), to help quantify these chances and understand the uncertainty associated with the projections. MTOM is a risk-based planning tool for mid-term operations within the one to two year planning window. CRSS is the primary long-term planning tool for studying river operations and projected development. A combined modeling approach has been developed that incorporates the strengths of both models to generate one set of modeling projections. This presentation will highlight how the RiverSMART tool can be used to facilitate these combined model runs, and streamline the results processing procedure.
