Tarrant Regional Water District (TRWD) is a wholesale raw water supplier serving 11 counties and about 2.5 million people across North Texas. With significant population growth and increasing water demands expected over the next 50 years, TRWD must continue to proactively develop additional supplies to meet future needs. The roadmap for achieving these goals is outlined in the 2025 Integrated Water Supply Plan (IWSP), which evaluates TRWD's system holistically by comparing supply availability and conveyance capacity to projected demands through 2080. The plan identifies future alternatives of combined water management strategies (WMS) to best meet future goals. A critical component of this effort was the use of RiverWare, which served as the foundational modeling platform enabling a comprehensive and integrated evaluation of TRWD's complex water supply system. RiverWare, together with RiverSMART, allowed for the detailed simulation of reservoir operations, system interactions, and long-term planning scenarios under varying hydrologic and demand conditions. These tools were instrumental in developing and refining current and future scenarios, ultimately informing both the timing and magnitude of future water supply needs. Twenty water management strategies were identified and combined into multiple portfolios, which were evaluated based on Reliability, Implementation, Affordability and Community Alignment. Five portfolios were recommended as a path forward for TRWD's mission of meeting future water demands. These portfolios reflect a mix of strategies, including prioritizing planning efforts on larger projects, implementation of advanced conservation strategies, advancing permitting strategies and development of regional partnership projects.
